WHS vs MV at MV starting at 4 pm today (Jan 12)
A January 11th Health Order moved the Navajo Nation to red status and listed schools as priority places (first to open, last to close). WHS will remain in person while staying safe by: 1. Sending scholars who come to school not feeling well back home. 2. Reviewing the symptom checker. 3. Implementing more aggressive physical distancing where possible. 4. Reviewing and practicing the proper way to wear a mask. 5. Encouraging scholars and staff to double mask in public. 6. Heightening attention on surface sanitization. 7. Continuing to limit events to 25% capacity. 8. Continuing to use Canvas. 9. Keeping our smiles on behind that mask! Parents and families can help by: 1. Texting (801) 633-6755 to get absence excused and request homework. 2. Reminding scholars about each person needing a 3-foot bubble. 3. Reviewing and practicing the proper way to wear a mask. 4. Encouraging scholars to double mask in public.

Dear Parent and Public, Our number one goal is to ensure that students and staff have a safe and welcoming environment that promotes learning, and at this time I am happy to report that students and staff of San Juan School District are safe. Yesterday afternoon, a threatening comment was received at one our schools. Then, latter in the evening a suspicious device appearing to be some type of home-made explosives was found at a second SJSD school. The San Juan County Sherriff’s Department along with the Navajo Nation Police responded and determined it to be non-functional as an explosive device but still dangerous in nature. These incidents added to the recent activity on TikTok and our commitment to ensure the continued safety of students and staff, the decision to was made that Friday December 17th would be a virtual day of instruction for all students. This will allow time for further investigation. I thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through this situation. We do believe these incidents are related to the TikTok challenge. We plan on students returning to face-to-face instruction Monday, Dec 20th. Should anything come to light in our ongoing investigation to require a change of plan, we will again reach out to inform parents and public. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding as we look further into these incidents. Sincerely, Ron Nielson SJSD Superintendent
